It was really satisfying to see external recognition for a project that has been close to my heart for years. Last night at the annual Association of Project Management (APM) Awards the W1 Programme team were named as winners of the Programme of the Year Award.
Many congratulations to the talented delivery team who put the finishing touches on a project which began back in 2003. The work of the Programme team has produced a vibrant, new home for BBC journalists and programme makers which is a showcase of contemporary workplace design.
Over the years, the BBC has encountered many challenges as it worked at delivering this state of the art, digital complex which now houses approximately 6,000 employees. This two-phase construction programme, provided many an anxious moment and was fraught with risk – it was very heartening to see it finally across the line. In my mind, New Broadcasting House (NBH) is a landmark building which is the pride of the BBC, the pride of London and the pride of Britain. I’m certain that NBH is set to become one of the great public buildings of the 21st Century.
