EverythingOmni: The End of the Line (of the Experiment)
EverythingOmni set out to build bridges, between people, place, and technology, between suppliers, consumers, and policymakers. The benefits were only partially recognised; most players preferred to remain in their silos. We helped some see the wood for the trees, offering fresh perspectives, though most stuck to well-worn paths. We engaged, we sparked insight, we challenged the familiar, but tangible support was scarce. It seems the road less travelled is high risk and few were willing to take that step.
Perhaps it was ahead of its time. Perhaps stepping outside the familiar was simply too much to ask. Maybe, somewhere down the road, others will see what we were trying to build.
The best epitaph comes from that Travelling Wilbury’s song ‘End of the Line’, lyrics paraphrased here:
Maybe somewhere down the road aways
You’ll think of us and wonder where we are these days.
At the end of the line, we’ll still believe:
It’s all right to live the life you please,
To do the best you can,
To lend a hand
Even if the world isn’t quite ready to take it!
